What are the Seven Churches of the Revelation in Asia and where are they?

The Seven Churches of The Revelation in Asia as stated in the Book of Revelation are Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea. Today, all these are existing names in Turkey as they are ancient cities protected by the Culture and Tourism Ministry of the Republic of Turkey. They are located in the Izmir, Manisa, and Denizli provinces of Turkey.

Itinerary

Day 1 Smyrna & Pergamon (the Suffering Church and the Compromising Church)

Stop At: Izmir

we will visit Smyrna, “the suffering church” and the (“Do not be afraid of anything that you are going to suffer. Indeed, the devil will throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will face an ordeal for ten days”), home of great 2nd century Bishop Policarp who was burned alive at the age of 85.

Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At: Ruins of Pergamum

we will continue to Pergamum, “the compromising church”; Revelation 2:12-16 describes the city as “where Satan’s seat is”, a reference to the altar of Zeus. After the tour return to Izmir andovernight at your hotel in Izmir.

Day 2 Thyatira-Sardes-Philedelphia (the Adulterous Church, the Dead Church, the Faithful Church)

Stop At: Akhisar

Depart for the visit to Thyatira, “the adulterous church” that, as mentioned in the Revelations, tolerated the false prophets, Jezebel (Rev. 1: 11; 2: 18-29).

Duration: 2 hour

Stop At: Sardis (Sardes)

Proceed to Sardes, “the dead church”, another of the Seven Churches of Revelation. Jesus told Sardes, “I know thy works, that thou hast a name, that thou livest, and art dead”(Rev. 3: 1-6).

Duration: 2 hour

Stop At: Philadelphia Siesean Kilisesi

After visiting “the faithful church” of Philadelphia, we will stay overnight in Pamukkale.

Duration: 2 hour

Day 3 Pamukkale and Laodicean Church

Stop At: Pamukkale

After we get to Pamukkale, we will walk through the ruins of ancient Hierapolis. We will make a short break for taking photos and after that continue walking to well preserved Roman theater. Then, you can visit the Necropolis, graveyard with more than two thousand graves. Passing by the Roman baths, we will reach the Ancient Pool where you can spend some of your free time swimming in a warm spring water. Instead, you can also choose to spend that time walking barefoot down the Travertines, filled with thermal water enriched with calcium.

Stop At: Laodicea

Laodicea, the church chastised for being lukewarm, “You are neither cold nor hot” (Rev. 3: 15), and for being too comfortable incorporating pagan and Christian beliefs. After the tour transfer to Kusadasi and stay overnight.

Day 4 Ephesus, Virgin Mary and Church of St. John

Stop At: Ancient City of Ephesus

We will visit Ephesus (“the loveless church”, the most important of the seven churches),

Duration: 2 minutes

Stop At: Meryemana (The Virgin Mary’s House)

House of Virgin Mary where she is said to have spent her final years

Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At: The Basilica of Saint John

Basilica of St. John also known as Church of St. John the Theologian. After the tour we can transfer you back to Izmir airport.

Duration: 30 minutes
